DESTROYED Assalamu aleikum. note: US$1 ~ Nigerian Naira 132.85 --- Sharia: Over N250m Liquor Destroyed From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi, This Day (Nigeria) 02.10.2005 http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=9115 As part of efforts to ensure strict compliance to Sharia Law , Bauchi State Sharia Commission, has destroyed alcoholic beverages worth over N250 million and demolished the popular liquor brewing and consumption centre in Moroko. Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ustaz Muham-mad Babangida Muhammad, who disclosed this in Bauchi yesterday while reviewing activities of the Commission, said it is committed to strict compliance with the Sharia Legal System, adopted over four years ago. According to him, about 25 people have been arrested and charged to court for anti-sharia activities during the year under review, adding that the reconciliation committee of the Commission also received 250 cases of complaints involving couples and other people, and treated them accordingly. He reminded non muslims that Sharia was meant for Muslims only, and therefore should have nothing to fear over its execution. Muhammad said the Commission has distributed over N1 million as Zakat in Bauchi metropolis, adding that the Zakat Committees of the remaining 19 Local Government Councils have also distributed money, animals and farm produce worth several thousands of naira as Zakat during the year under review. He, however, expressed displeasure over the lukewarm attitude of some wealthy Muslims towards the payment of Zakat, and therefore called for a change of attitude. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=9115 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- All views expressed herein belong to the individuals concerned and do not in any way reflect the official views of Hidayahnet unless sanctioned or approved otherwise.
