Raid On Nuclear Fuel Market

05/07/06 "ICH" -- -- In the background of the political joust about Iran, a few countries are reshaping the world. They are taking possession of the global nuclear fuel market. New IAEA regulations should keep newcomers away. The US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and Japan will become world’s nuclear filling stations.

Jimmy Carter: Punishing The Innocent Is A Crime

Innocent Palestinian people are being treated like animals, with the presumption that they are guilty of some crime. Because they voted for candidates who are members of Hamas, the United States government has become the driving force behind an apparently effective scheme of depriving the general public of income, access to the outside world and the necessities of life.

Zionism Is Nobody's Friend

" I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the U.S., in the field of commerce and manufacturing, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." The New Freedom. Woodrow Wilson, 1913

What was this power to which Wilson referred? Why was it talked about in hushed tones and behind closed doors?

Bush and Repugs at Their Most Dangerous

This could be the most dangerous period of Bush's reign.

If it's true that the next presidential election has already begun, then it's also true that the end of the Bush regime is unfolding as well. I should be feeling some satisfaction in that, and, I will, when it's over.

On Journalism and Media

Watching Western television or reading newspaper reports of Palestine always leaves me perplexed. If I did not live in Palestine and bear witness to Israel’s military occupation, I would be left with the impression that Palestinians and Israelis are equals – with no occupation existing – and that this conflict simply requires “concessions” on both sides.

Hillary Clinton: Too Much of a Clinton Democrat?

Posted May 7, 2006 09:42 AM PST - Category: POLITICS/CORRUPTION

Moving into 2008, Republicans will be fighting to shake off the legacy of the Bush years: the jobless recovery, the foreign misadventures, the nightmarish fiscal mismanagement, the Katrina mess, unimaginable corruption and an imperial presidency with little regard for the Constitution or the rule of law. Every Democratic contender will be offering change, but activists will be demanding the sort of change that can come only from outside the Beltway.

Hillary's biggest problem isn't Bill, but Jorge!

Documentary about the Franklin Cover-up

Posted May 7, 2006 07:53 AM PST - Category: POLITICS/CORRUPTION

Yorkshire had a contract with the Discovery Channel to produce a documentary on the case for American television.

Finally, the big day came. Their documentary was to air nation-wide on the Discovery Channel on May 3, 1994. It was advertised in the TV Guide and in newspapers for that day. But no one ever saw that program. At the last minute, and without explanation, it was pulled from the air. It was not shown then, and has never been broadcast anywhere since.

"The inquiry into the poker games has also put a spotlight on the limousine company that ferried Mr. Cunningham and others to the Watergate and Westin Grand. The company, Shirlington Limousine and Transportation, is operated by Christopher D. Baker, a man with a history of criminal convictions and financial troubles. $25 million? There must have been some really great "amenities" in the back of those limos!

The Real Oil Story: The Oil in Iraq

Russian bombers flew undetected across Arctic

The commander of the country’s long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers. “They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually,” he said.

As Bush pushes forward into war with Iran, which in turn could lead to war with Russia, here is a little news item that will keep you awake at night.

During a recent war game, Russian bombers were able to fly across the arctic into Canada and carry out four simulated missile attacks against the US without being detected by NORAD and the US Air Force.

Creationism dismissed as 'a kind of paganism' by Vatican's astronomer

BELIEVING that God created the universe in six days is a form of superstitious paganism, the Vatican astronomer Guy Consolmagno claimed yesterday.

Brother Consolmagno, who works in a Vatican observatory in Arizona and as curator of the Vatican meteorite collection in Italy, said a "destructive myth" had developed in modern society that religion and science were competing ideologies.

The problem for many believers, like Brother Consolmagno, is that once you start unravelling one of the threads from the cloth that is the collected book of spiritual wisdom from any tradition, the whole cloth gets unravelled. If the creation story in Genesis is a fable, then what about the rest of the content from the rest of the books of the Bible? Are some statements more true than other, or are we really looking at a collection of ancient metaphors for some larger truths?
