sangat memilih utk mewar warkan berita mengenai pencabulan hak asasi
manusia. Tambah lagi mereka ini juga dijadikan alat oleh Amerika utk
mengkritik hak asasi manusia dinegara lain.
Setahu saya Zimbabwe ni anti Amerika. Jadi berita macam ini bersifat
lebih kepada propaganda pada saya. Betul atau tidak saya pun tak tahu.
Sama juga berita mengenai pencabulan hak asasi manusia di Dafur, Sudan.
Cerita sebaliknya ialah cerita hasil minyak.

Zimbabwe : Harassment, torture and intimidation of opposition
activists
On 11 March 2007, about 50 activists were arrested in Zimbabwe
after attempting to attend a public meeting in defiance of a three-month
ban imposed by the authorities. The activists, including leaders of the
main opposition party in Zimbabwe -- the Movement for Democratic Change
(MDC) -- were severely beaten during arrest and later tortured while in
police custody.
Police shot dead one of the activists, Gift Tandare, the youth
chairperson of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) local
structure in a Harare suburb. Three people were later shot by police at
Tandare's funeral wake in Glen View on 13 March. Police reportedly fired
randomly at the mourners. Two of the three, Nhamo RUSERE and Dickson
MAGONDO, were shot and needed hospitalisation, while a third, Naison
MASHAMBANHAKA was grazed on the arm by a police bullet, and was not
hospitalised. However, when Naison Mashambanhaka went back to the
funeral wake later that day he was shot a second time on the same arm.
Those tortured include MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai and NCA
Chairperson Dr Lovemore Madhuku.
Amnesty International (AI) has received numerous reports of continuing
police harassment of the political opposition and lawyers. In addition,
civil society groups, including the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions
(ZCTU), the NCA and the women's organisation Women of Zimbabwe Arise
(WOZA), continue to be harassed by state agents as they attempt to carry
out their work.

Your Excellency,
Stop Harassment, Torture and Intimidation of Opposition Activists in
Zimbabwe
I am writing to express my grave concern about the continued arrest,
harassment, torture and intimidation of opposition activists in Zimbabwe
including the arrest and subsequent release of Movement for Democratic
Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai on 28 March 2007.
I am also concerned about the killing of Gift Tandere, shot dead on
11 March 2007 by riot police while protesting the ban of public meetings
and the shooting of three other people at his funeral on 13 March.
The Zimbabwean government must ensure that all those arrested have
immediate access to lawyers, doctors and their families and are promptly
brought to court to review the legality of their detention. The
government must also guarantee their safety and well-being and
immediately investigate any allegations of torture.
Anyone detained solely for peacefully exercising their right to
freedom of expression or assembly must be immediately and
unconditionally released
The government must also institute an immediate, impartial and
independent investigation of the killing by riot police of Gift Tandare
on 11 March and the shootings of the three other people. Those suspected
to be responsible must be brought to justice.
