South Pacific may refer to:

In geography:

   - Australasia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australasia>, a region of
Oceania, including: New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea and
   neighbouring islands
   - Oceania <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania>, a geographical, often
geopolitical, region consisting of numerous lands - mostly islands in the
Pacific Ocean and vicinity, usually including: Micronesia, Melanesia and
   Polynesia

The South Pacific islands are the most remote in the world. Their
extraordinary isolation has created some of the most curious examples of
life found anywhere on Earth..

Royal Penguins are only found on MacQuarie Island, which lies about
half-way between New Zealand and Antarctica. They remain at sea between
March and September.

A male elephant seal rests after mating with a female on Macquarie island.
Adult seals fish for squid in Antarctic waters before returning to breed
from September to November.

There are nearly two million Royal Penguins but they are deemed at risk
because they only have one nesting site - Macquarie island.

The Fiji Crested Iguana lives on Yadua Taba - a volcanic islet in Fiji
that is a protected sanctuary. There are less than 8,000 of the creatures on
the island

The Sepik river tribe from Papua New Guinea dance and form the shape of a
crocodile. Legend has it, that when crocodiles migrated through the Sepik
river, they established a human population.

The happy-faced spider (Theridion grallator) is only found on four islands
in the Hawaiian archipelago. Its patterns differ enormously from spider to
spider.

The coconut-eating robber crabs are the largest arthropods in the world.
They use strong pincers to pierce the coconuts. The female crab releases its
eggs into the sea who have two months to find new land.

The Australian saltwater crocodiles are strong swimmers and have reached
Papua New Guinea and the Solomon islands. They communicate by barks and are
thought to display four different calls.
