Is it just because of some group had been installing all these hatreds into their heart? Even the Arafat learns to live in peace with the Israel, why others kept on pressing to eliminate the race call jew?Regards,LOUD----- Original Message -----From: ConcordeSent: Friday, October 08, 1999 6:26 PMSubject: [sangkancil] Anti-Israel supporters torch Mahathir's ruling party flagsAnti-Israel supporters torch Mahathir's ruling party flags
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (AFP) - About 300 anti-Israel demonstrators Friday burnt flags of Malaysia's ruling party to protest against a recent meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries in the United States. The protestors, comprising university students and local residents, had earlier gathered at a mosque to perform their Friday prayers.
Raising their fist in the air, the demonstrators chanted: "Long live Islam. Destroy Israel."
"How can we have ties with a nation that murders Moslems," Mohamad Ibrahim, 24, told AFP.
Mohamad, a third year University Malaya student, said Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad should not have congratulated Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak for his victory in the recent general elections.
"We urge the government not to have any relations with Israel," he said.
As they marched out of the mosque compound towards a major flyover, the demonstrators, including women shouted and demanded the resignation of Mahathir, deputy premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Education Minister Najib Tun Razak.
"If Israel enters, country will be destroyed," one banner read, while a women protestor carried a placard stating: "Don't make friends with Jews."
The demonstrators then returned to the mosque compound and burned two flags, one of Mahathir party, the United Malays National Organisationand the other was of the ruling National Front coalition.
About 50 security officers, armed with batons and tear gas rifles stood by and observed the protestors. "It is a peaceful demonstration," said a police officer.
The demonstrators dispersed 30 minutes later.
On Thursday Malaysia's foreign minister Syed Hamid Albar hit back at the opposition Islamic party, accusing it of twisting facts about his informal meeting with his Israeli counterpart at the United Nations.
Syed Hamid said the informal meeting was requested by Israel, and that he took the opportunity to explain the reason for not having diplomatic ties and urge implementation of peace accords with the Palestinians.
Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) last week slammed Syed Hamid for meeting Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy in New York on September 26, saying it "disgraced Moslems and Malaysians."
PAS has reached a loose alliance with other opposition parties to try to unseat the National Front in elections due in June but analysts now say it could be held in November amid signs of economic recovery.
