The assembly will go on, says Tian Chua
KUALA LUMPUR, 13 April (Hrkh) - According to KeADILan
Vice-President, Tian Chua,the gathering this weekend
will continue as planned.
"The mobilization on the coming weekend is more than a
commemoration of Anwar Ibrahim's unjust sentence. It
would be a new milestone in the struggle to defend the
basic rights to assembly and free speech" he said.
It is a people initiative which is supported by human
rights defenders and political activists across the
spectrum he explained. "Freedom to peaceful assembly
is one of the most fundamental rights in any
democratic society," he continued further.
The mobilization does not belong to any particular
party or political organization said Tian Chua. He
also stressed "No party leaders or groups can
unilaterally call off any part of the actions. The
peaceful mobilization will be entirely
people-oriented,"
"The object of the action is also to present a People
Petition to the Head of our nation, DYMM Agung," said
the vice president.
He rejected accusations that the mobilization will
lead to riots or any form of violence. He said "the
participants had displayed a great sense of courage
and self-discipline" in previous gatherings held.
Tian Chia hopes the newly appointed Human Rights
Commission will monitor closely police actions this
weekend.
