PAS : KE ARAH PEMERINTAHAN ISLAM YANG ADIL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Salam,
2 minggu lepas TERPAKSA ke puduraya sebab nak hantar
orang. Seolah2 tidak ada kata2 yg tepat untuk
menceritakan keadaannya yang tersangatlah teruk,
tidak sesuai sungguh dengan taraf bandaraya KL yang
terdapat didalamnya pelbagai benda yang canggih
-manggih. Pelancung tengok pun malu negara dibuatnya.
Dengan sesaknya, dengan kotornya, dengan tak ada
sistemnya, dsbnya.
Satu contoh; kalau tikit bas habis, dia orang jual
bas tambahan. Janji tunggu di platform, tapi
rupa2nya ada orang yang akan announce supaya cross
jalan ke tempat lain. Kalau kebetulan tak ada disitu
(ke surau misalnya) boleh terlepas bas.
Dinasihatkan bebudak2 kecik toksahlah kesana. Dengan
udaranya mungkin beracun dan tersangatlah menyesakkan
nafas. Budak2 boleh demam.
Waduh, sudah sekian lama janji mau bikin baru, tapi
janji manis hanya dibibir - ekonomi pulak yang
dipersalahkan. Atau, sebab yang gunakanya hanyalah
rakyat biasa, maka prioritynya rendah?
Mungkin, kalau puduraya ni letaknya di negeri Pantai
Timur, sudah pasti majlis perbandaran dan kerajaan
negeri dihentam.
Sunday Highlights: PUDURAYA TOO OLD AT 25
THE Puduraya bus terminal can no longer cope with the
increasing number of bus and taxi companies operating
in the Federal capital.
A spokesman for Urus Bangunan Sdn Bhd, which oversees
the maintenance of the 25-year-old bus terminal, said
it was thus a timely move to replace the old Puduraya
with the new high-tech and more comfortable bus
terminal at the adjacent Plaza Rakyat.
Urus Bangunan is the subsidiary of UDA Holdings Sdn
Bhd which owns the building.
However, the multi-facility Plaza Rakyat, which was
supposed to have been completed and operational in
1996, is still under construction.
Progress on the mega project has been slow due to
financial problems faced by its developer, Plaza
Rakyat Sdn Bhd.
The new terminal is being built on the site of the
former Selangor Chinese Recreational Club which faces
the Tung Shin and Chinese Maternity hospitals in
Jalan Pudu.
Besides Pudurayas dilapidated condition, inter
state and express buses queuing up to enter
Pudurayas basement had also contributed to the
congestion in the area, said the Urus Bangunan
spokesman, adding that sometimes, the traffic jam
would extend up to Jalan Hang Tuah, which is more
than a kilometre away. It is especially bad on
weekends or on the eve of school holidays.
The are many buses using the terminal. The
congestion is unbelievable. With all the fumes and
noise, one can easily fall sick just being at
Puduraya.
A reader, Azmi Atan in his letter to the New Straits
Times recently expressed his disappointment with the
Puduraya bus terminal.
He said that the terminal is so congested that it is
not suitable for the elderly. It is also a health
hazard.
A check at the Puduraya terminal showed that the
ceiling fans can no longer ventilate the stale air at
the waiting area which is also polluted by fumes
coming from the express buses waiting for passengers
in the basement.
The paint at several places has peeled off and there
are not enough seats at the waiting area.
The waiting area is also congested with bus ticket
counters, kiosks and food stalls.
The spokesman said the company was unable to overcome
the traffic problem but can only upgrade and maintain
the public amenities at the terminal.
We are in a dilemma. The demand for inter-state
buses is increasing daily and if we reduce the number
of buses, we will be denying commuters an essential
service, he said.
He said Urus Bangunan could only maintain the bus
terminal up to a certain level but to improve the
overall condition would take a lot of work and money.
Presently, we are doing some upgrading work and
repairing the lights at the basement for safety
reasons, he said, adding that the upgrading work
would take two months to complete.
Meanwhile, City Hall has received a proposal to
relocate some of the north-bound express buses to the
Hentian Duta bus terminal.
The proposal is aimed at dispersing the services of
express buses which will help to reduce traffic
congestion at the Puduraya bus terminal.
There are also plans to have a shuttle bus service
between the Puduraya and Hentian Duta bus terminals.
It is only a suggestion, we are still studying the
proposal, said City Hall Press officer Hanim Hashim.
The proposal has been welcomed by Urus Bangunan. The
spokesman said Hentian Duta was presently under
utilised.
The bus terminal only serve commuters from Kuala
Lumpur to the Sepang International Airport.
By re-locating the north-bound bus service to
Hentian Duta, congestion at Puduraya will be
minimised.
The spokesman said the move will also complement the
Hentian Putra and Pekeliling bus terminals which
cater to East coast bound commuters.
We were informed that this proposal will remain
temporary until the Plaza Rakyat bus terminal is
completed and operational, he said.
He added that once the new terminal was completed,
all buses will be stationed there for the convenience
of commuters.
The spokesman said UDA Holdings will develop the old
Puduraya. He, however, declined to elaborate on the
project.
