PESHAWAR (WAHDAT): Tribesmen in the eastern province
of Konar have pledged support to the ruling Taliban
and have vowed to resist the installation of an
American puppet regime on the Afghan people.
In a joint meeting attended by the local Taliban
commanders, the tribes including Mashwani, Mamond,
Salarzai, Shinwari and Gujjar have pledged their
support to the ruling militia. The commanders had
approached these tribes after evolving the strategy to
counter ground attack by American commandos.
The tribesmen have also promised that they would
resist the installation of a puppet regime in Kabul,
saying that the Afghan people will never accept the
agenda of the United States.
A tribal elder at the meeting said that the return of
former King Zahir Shah as next head of the state would
make matters worse. The country's political situation
has changed in many ways and the ex-monarch will be
unable to work in the current situation, the tribal
elder said.
