Ex-Bukit Aman cop to assist in hudud law enforcement

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state government has appointed a former police officer
from Bukit Aman to assist its chief enforcer of the hudud and qisas laws.

The newly-appointed deputy Hisbah Commissioner, Yusof Ludin, was named to
assist the state Hisbah Commissioner Nordin Saidin, a former Anti-Corruption
Agency director who was appointed earlier.
This was announced by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Hadi Abdul Awang when he met
reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here yesterday.

Hadi reiterated that the Sultan of Terengganu gave his royal assent to the
Syariah Criminal Offences (Hudud and Qisas) laws early this month. The Bill
was passed at the state assembly here in July.

"Sultan Mizan has given his royal ascent to the laws before he left for
Mecca on Sept 8, to perform the umrah," the Mentri Besar said.

On other matters, Abdul Hadi said the state government had made a decision
to implement the Malaysia Remuneration System (SSM) in the state civil
services.

He said the implementation of the system would involve state government
agencies, departments and statutory bodies which had more than 8,000 state
civil servants.

Hadi also said the state government had approved an allocation of RM145,500
to assist 60 families in Kuala Besut whose houses were badly damaged due to
storms on Monday.

He said the allocation was channelled through the state fund, the Tabung
Darul Iman.

He said the families were from Kampung Dengir, Kampung Bukit Puteri, Kampung
Gong Penaga and Kampung Air Terjun and each family would receive assistance
of between RM500 and RM10,000.

Hadi said the assistance would be channelled through the Welfare Department
and the people's consultative council at the respective villages.
