Thanks for your response.
Taking into account the SQLite restriction (and the restriction over other
RDBMS as well), I was thinking in allowing something as a Compatibility
Mode, in which it should be defined a set of SQL statments, actions and
functions that can be emulated in various database motors.
One of this is allowing a "transparent alter table" by doing the trick that
you exposed.
I know that could create a non-standard standard, but it will allow the
developers to deploy faster.
It could even have a port helper which could port the SQL to the specific
database.
What do you think about this?
