Yes, very much off topic. :) -- "But it was not intended as a teaching tool..."
I refer you to my e-mail today on this subject. To re-iterate, if we're really so apathetic about actually teaching people new skills, you should have just posted the list, or compiled the program and emailed it to the list. Providing ambiguous, difficult to understand source code to a person who isn't able to use it is a waste of your time. You should have either written the source code in a way a beginner would understand, or simply not have bothered. If you wish to continue our discussion of educational theory :) I suggest you e-mail me directly; I'm sure the list is tired of hearing about this, even though we might not be <G> [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks, david -----Original Message----- From: Florian Zschocke [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2001 3:57 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [hlcoders] Binary (wtf?) Yes. But it was not intended as a lesson or a teaching tool. I said I included it "so he could check it and see how the list was generated". Not to teach him how the binary system works. I did not assume any level of knowledge about the binary system on his side. If he has no clue how it (or the code) works he can simply ignore it and just use the list. If he has some knowledge he might be by the code clued into something that he was overlooking. Or somebody like you could have spotted an error in it and pointed that out. After all it was a quick and dirty hack, written in five minutes. Just to use it now and be done with. And to be short to fit nicely on one page of an email without trying to win a prize in the IOCCC.
