I would assume that if you really wanted complete control over the contents of a demo, you could script it so as it would be the same every time, much as madonion did for 3dmark. That way you wouldnt HAVE to edit the .dem file, you would know exactly what was in it, and in fact, you probably wouldnt even need the dem file, you could just have your mod running in a demo loop.
