Right click in the steam menu and it should give you a "backup files" option, which you can tell steam to break it into CD sized chunks.
Or you can do what I do and copy the .GCF files over to a second hardrive. And retail DVD version will only be released in the UK. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Gregor Brunmar Sent: 09 November 2004 21:30 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [hlcoders] Does Valve compress files? Will Valve support some sort of backup of HL2? Lets say I buy and download HL2 via Stream and backup the files to some CD-R:s, external harddrive or somewhere else. Then after some months I format my harddrive. Can I then just take my backup-files and copy them to the Steam-download folder, even if both Steam and HL2 have had updates after my backup? It would be a little anoying having to download 2.5 Gb twice or more, just because you didn't go out and buy a boxed copy :( One other thing... I don't have a DVD-drive... Does that mean I can't buy a retail version? (I've read somewhere, that the release will be DVD only) / Gregor Alfred Reynolds wrote: >The total download size of HL2 for the silver pack is around 2.5Gb (on >disk size is much bigger because its uncompressed).
