First, you are mistaken; I am interested in coding for HL2 and trying to get some time to work on a very different type of mod for HL2.
Second, not every topic I post is "OMG VALVE IS RAPING SERVERS"; in fact most questions I have posted in this list regarding coding have been left unanswered. Third, I usually try to make my posts constructive, but spending the time to make a constructive post and then there is no response to it makes me feel as if I wasted my time. At least when I post my opinion I will get a response, whether it be negative or positive its better than not getting a response at all. And forth, I ran a HL1 server for nearly 3 years, I moved to HL2 hoping I could do the same with my HL2 server, and found out I was pretty much screwed since I could not make a mod that would do anything other than be able to kick and ban players and a few other gimmicks. It was as if my balls were cut off, I was completely powerless to make any interesting server side mods that would in turn bring traffic to my server. So what do I do? I close the server down, not because I really wanted too, but paying $150 a month for a box that gets little usage is not the best way to spend money. I do not hold any ill will against valve, they are one of the better small companies making games, however they are shooting themselves in the foot by making it harder for coders to make smaller server side mods. I think the whole "pure/non-pure" thing for servers is a great idea; they should probably take the time to put something like that in, and then expand the plug-in interface, hell even the bot coders are even complaining they can't make bots that are intelligent because of the super limited interface. HL1 Had 6 years of refinements, when it started out it was not exactly amazing either. I'm sure people like Alfred and the valve members really care about the "lets get mad at valve" because they are probably use to it ;) But I would much rather this list was pushed back to what it was meant to be, a support list for hl coders. Spencer, it's clear you don't run a source server or are intrested in coding for hl2, please don't make every topic into "OMG! Valve are raping servers!" or "OMG! HL1 Was sooooo much better" we are not intrested. If you wan't to bitch and rant make it constructive and not just opinion posts.
