Serius Toys... humm.... ...but software its not like real world. On real world you can't use a 50 tons truck because its very expensive. On the software world its cheap to use a 90 tons truck, you dont need to use your personal car, or your childrens toy truck.
There IS engines designed for scientific graphics. OSG and others, ...terrain based engines for scientific purposes. For god's sake, I LOVE half-life2, but its a BSP based engine. BSP engines are good for dungeons maps, not for wide open areas. Maybe you are doing the Right thing with the wrong Tool. Or I am outdated.
