Hi Tom..I think I nailed it..so no need to upload.
The problem was I didnt quite understand the meaning of the alpha values in the 
.vbsp file i was making(normally i used just the standard entrys).  Basically I 
thought that the alpha value meant that those props or sprites would only get 
generated on that specific .3 alpha value..now I understand that I need to 
specify empty groups with other alpha ranges in them so that hammer knows that 
those sprites are to be generated "between" them..for example if i wanted them 
to appear the way i wanted i would have to put group1 alpha 1 and an empty 
group with alpha .7.  Silly mistake but now it works like it should
