Yeah I was able to tell if I was a member of a group pretty easily by just comparing the server name to the "clan" name, but my hitch was knowing whether or not it was possible for any client to look up the info for any other client.
I think it will be pretty easy to send all that info to the server and then parse it how I need. Thanks Chris, that's pretty much what I needed to know.
