I think it's less that they need to add new stuff to demo smoother, they
need to FIX it first. Demo Smoother + Demo UI is so full of bugs it's such a
hastle it's almost worth doing it by hand, the hard way.

(Decompile the map, import into 3ds Max, Create a camera path there, assign
it to a box, export out, compile, Place in game by either re-compiling or
find a way to do it in game (ent_create? I've never had any luck with
specifying stuff with that, there's no written syntax in the console), and
then parent the player to your model, and play the animation. Then record a
demo/use startmovie right away and record your path.

Unfortunately that is only useful for flythroughs and not actual gameplay...
