Now that i'm thinking about it. Is there anyway to set the clients mode CLIENT-SIDE ONLY? I want the server to assume i'm using a model that's installed on the server, while the player get's whatever they want - to avoid precaching multiple (many) models on the server.

I'm not sure if they'll address what you're asking. Other members of the list can correct me if I'm wrong. I've actually been curious about this myself. In HL1 the client can set there player model to whatever models they had installed, and any other clients that didn't have the model they just appeared as the default player model. I'd like to implement this in HL2. I allowed clients to set there model to anything, which does a (late) precache so the model actually shows up. But other clients get the "error.mdl" model - anytime to change this?
