If it were me I would upgrade the CPU to the maximum my motherboard supports and get 
either an NVIDIA 6800 series. You would definitely see more performance from an NVIDIA 
6800 series which there are AGP versions of (assuming you have AGP).

I used to have an Athlon XP 2100+ Palomino and I upgraded to a 2600+ Barton (more L2 
cache) and overclocked it 500MHz faster (about a 3200+). If my motherboard supported 
AGP 8x I would upgrade the video card as well, but it doesn't so no biggie. For now 
I'm happy with my PNY GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128MB.
