Yes, new servers come online every day, but when there's 15000+ to
choose from, who cares?

Rarely are people going to play on servers they ping higher than 150 to,
unless their connection cannot be helped. Creating a favorites list of
all the servers you do ping that well (and better) to, and then using
that from then on is quite a time saver, as there will be tones of
servers (unless you live at an odd location). I've never had a favorites
list that was completely full. From time to time I do check the MSL, to
add more favorites, but not as a way to browse for servers to play right
then and there. It's a complete waste of time.

Yup. And just why do you think the MSL is a pain in the ass to use? It's
not because of anything Valve has done. IT'S BECAUSE THERE'S 20,000
SERVERS. No other game(s) has these problems because no other games has
such a huge userbase. Use some sense.
