There is no such thing as a program without bugs. There is no such thing as a system without bugs. We don't make bug free software, we make software that has an acceptable level of defects. And yes, I have written large scale software with an acceptable level of defects.
Does Steam have an acceptable level of defects? I can't answer that as I don't know what Valve's criteria is, nor do I know what development, testing, and QA/QC methodologies they follow. One of the problems with Steam is that we don't control it. Valve does, and Valve is not very good about telling us about changes, nor is Valve very good about communicating with us about problems with changes. They have their own beta test teams that they work closely with. Most of us out here running servers are not important enough for Valve to waste their time talking to us. For a while there we had Alfred talking with us a lot, but he seems to have mostly dissappeared. Have you noticed that the more Valve reps post here, the less whining and complaining there is? And when Valve reps stop talking to us, the whining gets real bad? > Hey everyone makes mistakes, and these people are only human. > > How about this, you try and code a program comparable to steam with out any > bugs before you start insulting them. > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Whisper" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Saturday, September 25, 2004 3:28 AM > Subject: Re: [hlds] Server Mix-Up - CS and Source > > > > And Favourites is completely useless now as it mysteriously gets > > setback to CS:S and then if you change it back to CS 1.6 they will > > have all disappered! > > > > Does Valve actually test anything they do BEFORE they inflict it on the > > public?? > > _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
