This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- Not to mention the fact that your friend google turns up like 10 sites that have them listed out with descriptions.. But yes some simple readme.txt documentation on them would be nice when the product is actually 'finished'

If you got the cvar name, you can use help cvar in console to get more information. (cvarname ?)
