Subject: Re: [hlds] [hlds_announce] HL2MP release, Counter-Strike:
Source update.
FYI, if you're just looking to update CS:S, this update adds around
12,000 new files totaling 500 MB.
Question from a clueless oldbie (as opposed to newbie) -
Where do these file sizes come from? The official note from Valve quotes
300Mb for HL2MP and 200Mb for CS:S, and states that there are some files
shared in those figures.
When I went to activate HL2MP in Steam last night, it quoted only a 30Mb
download, and when it finally activated, it seemed to download much
less.
Similarly, the CS:S update seemed to only require a trivial download
before it was ready.
Have I saved on some download time through some of the content already
being installed from disk? (Hardly seems likely that HL2MP was not
commenced until after HL2 went Gold.)
Are the large download figures some sort of "update from scratch" worst
case scenario?
