I'm honestly VERY disapointed in anyone who replies to this asking "why does it hang when I try to update?!?!".
There are MULTIPLE posts in MULTIPLE forums (including steampowered) discussing this issue already. C'mon now. Do a little 'recon' before asking a question that could've otherwise been answered in a few seconds. =) To sum it up... Steam is garbage as far as updates are concerned. You just have to wait it out.
