oh, and about the L1/L2 cache on the CPU, all that stuff is handled by the CPU itself. The OS just deals with requests to/from main system ram, and the CPU itself decides what to keep in those caches by looking at what's getting used recently. The OS itself doesn't have anything to do with it. Which in turn means none of the programs running on top of the OS has nothing to do with it either.
