Memory is usually your next limitation after bandwidth as it puts a hard cap on the number of players you can have on a server at one time and maintain decent preformace without disk thrashing which will put an end to things quick smart.

memory seems to be primarily affected by which maps you choose to run. I don't observe a lot of memory use flucuation at all regardless of player counts. however, a gig of memory will serve most needs well. i have 2gb and seldom observe it running above 900mb in use.
keep in mind that a 100mbps nic that is attached to a lousy/busy connection to the backbone will still be a poor connection. I.e.; don't rent a server from a hosting provider that supports a large number of pron sites, etc. study the provider's backbone connections and pick one that has a good set of pipes.
Don't hook your race car up to a donkey and still expect to win.
