WOW... talk about the firing line... I host an SRCDS Server on WinX64 no
problems.. all as a hobby. Thank you to those that Came to the call when I
was setting up my HTTP Web Server which is hosted on Lynux.

My best recommendation as a HOBBY... find the platform you are most
comfortable in working with and just work on getting the game server up and
running smooth. After you get it running then tackle the Web portion. By
then this flaming heat will reduce... and maybe tthen the better answers
will surface...

I by preference like the Windows platform for the game server. It has it's
draw backs... Source of the OS is Company owned. So someone to scream at. No
auto updates without building a script or Service to Auto Update. Same is
true with the Server as for crashes without running a third party
application or building a service.

Lynux, sweet deal open source.. no support unless you purchase a service
plan (and by the way not cheap). But many benefits on the back side.

BUT WHAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO FORGET... This is a HOBBY not a business.. SO
find the tools that best will serve your needs within a budget you can
afford.

For Hobby, I pay totally out of pocket and will not accept anything from my
users. The Maitenance cost of my Game Server, all my time use to mainatain
it. The Internet Cost for Dedicated IP (multiple lines) DSL, the Cost for a
Domain, and Hosting Cost of my Web Site.

So please folks... calm down on which is more secure and flaming the
multiple systems.. This user just wants to know which direction best suits
thier needs as a Hobby. But seems a lot of you are not sure the Users level
of knowledge in the vast technology out there.. Oh and by the way... They
ALL... have thier Security Flaws... SO get over it.. on one being better
than the other...

like I said, both camps claim better performance. You just happen to
be in the IIS camp. There are just as many in the apache camp that
show apache performing better. The fact that you were able to get
better performance out of IIS doesn't necessarily mean anything more
than you have more IIS knowledge...

putting one name before the other. Frankly, screw that. I have
deployed BOTH (no names required this time) in very high volume and

IN BOTH scenarios depending on the final layer of development that WE
put on top.
