Not to put too fine a point on it, but the dedicated server is
free, so if you want to run a server you pay a grand total of zero
dollars to Valve. Alfred and the dev team are spending, let's say
$30/man-hour to make their free server work better with third-party
mods and fix bugs we as server admins complain about. Did I mention
that a DS3 worth of bandwidth (45Mbps) that might handle one or two
of the Valve content servers is several thousand dollars a month and
Valve isn't making money off serving these updates, and has purchased
many times that bandwidth just to serve updates and VAC and
the authentication packets? Did I mention that those thord-party
mods are also free to you from dedicated people who work with
Valve via the developers list and provide the fruits of their
efforts at no cost for the love of the game?
Valve has put their money where their product is. Hundreds
of third-party programmers have made tools and plugins available
for free that you may use if you wish.
In contrast, you've not developed an admin tool, so the
"too lazy" portion of your argument is merely cheap talk from
somebody who intends to let somebody else do the work and then
complain if it isn't suitable, even with a cost of zero to you.
Like I said, not to put too fine a point on it, but I
see two groups who have put up their ante. Complaining to Alfred
and Valve Software about actually having to expend effort on
admin duties for something you decided to try on your own
with no expense on your part sounds like sour grapes to me,
particularly as somebody else is writing the tool for you.
