If u want a fixed IP its very easy to get... ures at the moment will be a
dynamic one that always changes every so often... to fix it go to Control
Pannel>Network Connections>and then right click ure used connection and then
click properties, we will be making a static IP that never chages... first
now we need to Start>Run (once the connection window is up) and in the Run
bar type "cmd" A little black box will come up.. next we need to type into
the command prompt "ipconfig/all" lots of crap will come up if entered
correctly, next we have the connection window we pulled up earlier, we need
to select "Internet Protocol"abd then click properties.. Now we need to
select "Use the following IP address" here we need to come back to our
command prompt window and fish out the required details from the list we
pulled up, IP Addressm Subnet mask, Default Gateway, Preffered DNS server
etc.. for both DNS server ones imput the ones in the command prompt window
"DNS servers" they should be called, if u have 2 identical DNS server's in
ure command prompt then only put that one in the preffered box.. If uve done
all that correctly then u should be able to connect to the internet, after u
have pressed apply if not reset to obtain automatically. UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES CAN U MAKE UP URE OWN IP this does not work, and makes ure
internet connection fail.

U NOW HAVE A FIXED IP WELL DONE :D

not much. you'll need to get a router in, between you and the modem, so
it can mange the ip's. if your doing this so you have somewhere private
to play with your mates and don't wanna do out and buy a router, i' give
up right now because it's too much of a pain in the ass.

although (i almost hit the send button, lol) if you modem has dhcp (i
know mine does) it might just be possible to get it to assign you a
static ip for your pc. you'll need to look into that yourself as i have
only have experience with my modified WRT54G.

now i'll hit send :-D
