Hi, I've been trying to set up a half life 2 deathmatch server on my win2003 server. I've managed to get a game running using the tool available through the Steam tools (source dedicated server). The problem with that setup is that while I can connect to it no one else seems to see it.
The setup: In Sweden I have the server running the dedicated server tool. In Iceland I'm running HL2 on my laptop and connecting without any problems (no VPN or anything). My friend in Iceland (which is used to play on game servers) can't even see the server in the server list and if he adds it to the favorites list he gets a message that the server is not responding. No I would have guessed that the problem was that the server wasn't allowing incoming traffic on port 27015 but then my laptop shouldn't be able to connect either. After all that hassle I decided to give the HLDSUpdateTool from the Steam website. I downloaded the tool and installed it to C:\Program files\Valve\HLServer Then I opened command prompt, navigated to the afforementioned path and typed "HLDSUpdateTool -command update -game hl2mp dir ." The update then began and went smoothly. After the download I had a lot of files in my HLServer directory with a directory named after my Steam account name. It seems that the update tool created that folder and put about half of the files needed to run the server in that folder and then the rest in a folder named hl2mp (which was also in the account name folder). The HLDS.exe file needed to run the server was in my account name folder and when I ran it it complained that it couldn't find hl.dll which was in the dlls folder that was only in the original hl2mp folder and not in the user account folder. Now I need to copy some of the files from the hl2mp folder to the account name\hl2mp folder but I'm not sure which files or if it really is supposed to be like that. Finally I managed to get a console window that keeps telling me the fps of the server and seems to be running a game. This time I can't see the server from my laptop and it doesn't seem to exist. Is there a guide to running a server for HL2DM that works out there?
