You will run into this with a remote mysql server as well. There used to be some method for doing large ban files. Search the steampowered.com forums it has something to do with calling other ban files ie 10 ban files with 100 bans each or something. It may be a workaround.

I've talked with another server op buddy, and he said he had the same problem, and fixed it by reducing his banfile size. I really don't want to do this, as these are valid bans of bastage players we don't want returning to our server. I'm looking at using a mySQL db (like amxbans, or something we custom write) to store bans in, if there's no way to get around this beyond trimming the banned file, however, I'd rather not "externalize" the ban list if I can get the server configured to not take so long to process the banned.txt file.
