I think the custom tab is a much more intuitive to new gamers approach than a
filter system with lots of different elements.  It brings a good one to one
mapping for the user to see *normal* servers compared to *altered* servers,
normal implying they're running how Valve thinks it's best balanced.  For people
coming into gaming, and I suspect there's a few that TF2 will attract, then this
way of displaying the information is appropriate.

That said, this really does hinder power-users.  Offering an advanced server
browser that skips the custom tab and offers a full range of filters on the
Internet tab for them would be a good way to go, imo.
