As I posted earlier, the beta servers worked fine on Windows until
yesterday where Valve made some silent update that caused this behavior.
The files mentioned can be found in the source content GCF of your
client, but even extracting them to the beta server will not make the
error go away.
Something similar has happened before, where the tf beta was completely
unstartable (at least on win) for weeks, until some update from Valve
made it work again. Thats when I originally set up my beta server. Well
now they broke it again.

Hello - I'm trying to install a TF2 beta server on my local machine and
I'm running into a frustrating issue. I originally downloaded the server
files to my machine in order to fix some SourceMod plugins that weren't
working on my team's server that I help administrate, and now I'm trying
to fix SourceMod and MetaMod themselves - since those plugins were
broken with today's update. Anyway, here's what I did.
* I downloaded the server files using the hldsupdatetool
(C:\TF2Server\hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game tf_beta
-dir "C:\TF2Server" -verify_all -retry). The first time I did
this, it downloaded approx 8GB worth of files.
* I installed MetaMod and SourceMod plugins using their documentation.
* Upon starting the server (by just double clicking on srcds.exe) I
encounter the following error message in a simple dialog box:
"Error: texture file 'vgui/hud/800corner1' does not exist or is
invalid." I never run into the forest-green "Start Server" menu
that I run into when I start the normal TF2 srcds.exe.
* When I click "OK, another error message pops up saying "Error:
texture file 'vgui/hud/800corner2' does not exist or is invalid."
When I hit "OK" again, it continues without "corner3" and
"corner4" before cycling back to the original error message
(corner1). The only way to stop the error messages is to kill the
task from Windows Task Manager.
* Confused by this, I removed all the SourceMod and Metamod files,
and tried starting the server again, but the error persisted.
I'm running 64-bit Windows 7. I've looked through
tf2beta/tf_beta/materials/vgui/hud and have not found any files
corresponding to 800corner1, etc. Googling this error gave me no useful
results. I had this error before today's beta update. I've been told by
one of my team's higher-ups that sometimes deleting the whole folder and
redownloading it can fix issues sometimes, but I only want to do that as
a very last resort, and I fear that the error wouldn't go away.
I'd greatly appreciate any help I can get with this. Let me know if you
need any additional info.
Thanks in advance!
Kevin
