Yeah, that one is going to be a different problem than the 'bad pointer' problem. When you see an incomplete log like that, the server definitely crashed. The 'bad pointer' and 'bad address' errors I was talking about are fatal errors that the server actually detects and then shuts itself down gracefully before a crash can occur. In those fatal error situatuations that the server detects, you should actually see in your log that the server shut down.
As for your problem specifically, that looks like a DoD game, is it not? >From what I understand, DoD has always been a little more unstable than something like TFC or CS. I think at some point we want to do some testing of our own to help the DoD guys track down some of the DoD-specific crash problems (but right now I have my hands full with ours...). -----Original Message----- From: gil brice [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, October 05, 2001 6:54 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: NUM_FOR_EDICT: bad pointer Leon, One of the problems that we run into is that if I see a fatal error that crashes the server it is typically only seen on the active console. Since I have stopped runng hlds_run in 'screen' I no longer can see exactly what the message is. Most times the logging facility in hlds never has time to actually log the error message. Here is an example of a server crash and how I see it in my log: L 10/03/2001 - 08:15:46: "[26th] general heavy<64><196334><Allies>" killed "***wyatt earp***<63><836658><Axis>" with "spring" L 10/03/2001 - 08:16:30: "[26th] general heavy<64><196334><Allies>" kil Logging stops without any indication as to why. I am trying to figure out if there is a way I can write a script that will allow me to run halfd and launch hlds_run in a 'screen'. My scripting skills are ported from DOS and they don't translate very well. The halfd.org site has been down for awhile too, so I can't even ask those guys. When I can tell you what the errors I am getting are, I'll be glad to. My crashes are very infrequent. --- Leon Hartwig <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > For anyone who has seen their server exit with this > message...let's talk > about it on the list and compare notes.
