What gets me is that if this "security hole" has existed for so long without being fixed, couldn't Valve have waited until VAC for TFC arrived before removing it?...

Well sorry for the delay, I wish I had time to reply sooner. I obviously didn't make my self clear in my 1st ever post. So here it goes, I agree with the move to close the hole. I'm sure if it hasn't been exploited already, it would be. The point I was trying get across was that any backlash felt over this relatively non intrusive correction to an obvious bug removal was due mostly to the anti-cheat issue. If it wasn't so widely know that exec is the HLG access point, I don't think you would have heard a word. It is simply the high level of frustration felt by the many non-CS MOD admins that caused a knee jerk reaction. I'm sure once they examine the ramifications and realize that it doesn't affect the HLG operation "my assumption", the issue will die. Sorry for the confusion. *AKA*BULL'S_EYE >> Well I wouldn't call the HLG method of file scanning >> "RIFLING" it is more like Sonar. And assuming that HLG is the only thing on the planet that takes >advantage of this widely known and easily >exploited security hole. What about the rest of the gaming public? You honestly think there are no people out there >that might just have been actively >exploiting the hole as well? I have never done so, but that's not really saying much... >-- Eric (the Deacon remix) _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
