My standard setup for running 6 to 8 - 12-14 player servers on a single
machine and costs about $800 to $1000 if you shop around a little.
Also, I've never seen them all have max players all at one time so I
don't know if they would perform.

Its:

Athlon XP (whatever is onsale at the time, usually 1600+ to 1800+)

Mobo, whatever happens to be at a good price and has a good review. I
usually pick between ASUS or Gigabyte. I think I have a couple Soyo
Dragon's too.

Usually 768 megs of SDR or DDR ram depending on the mobo, sometimes 1
gig.

Video is a usually $20 AGP special. I've ben getting a lot of TNT2
cards lately.

A decent network card. I'm an old school bay networks fan and I liked
their NetGear products a lot back in the day but 3com has some nice NICs
and so does Intel if you want to spend the extra money.

A Tekram DC-390U2W SCSI card

A decent name brand SCSI drive, usually 8 gig, UW2. You don't need much
space for 6 to 8 servers and linux. I don't go IDE because in every
situation with over 3 servers running its failed to perform for me.
While 1 server changes maps, the others would experience "shudders".
Plus the machine can double as a web server/log parser without lagging
the game servers.

A decent case with power amd approved power supply.

A floppy drive in case you need to do the boot disk thing with linux one
day.

I don't put CDRom's in the servers permanantly. I use one for
installing linux then I take it out. They also don't get a keyboard,
mouse, monitor, or anything like that.

Anwyay, thats my setup. hope it helps.
