Personally I stopped using ftpd's a long time ago after it became evident
that pretty much none of them could go more than a week without announcing
a new security hole. wu-ftpd obviously being the worst offender in this.

These days I just use SCP. Several windows SSH clients support SCP, but
you can also get "WinSCP" which is just an SCP client. (Do a Google
search for it). Since we're plugging SSH clients, I recommend PenguiNet
from http://www.siliconcircus.com - it's shareware, but not exactly
expensive.

The lack of ftp causes a small problem for me though - I host websites
for some folks, and needed to give them upload abilities. Because of
that, I wrote some PHP code that allows them to do uploads through the
web and (hopefully) locks them into a sort of virtual chroot(). It's not
fully tested, but if anyone wants a copy, let me know. It's nice to be
able to let people upload without granting them an actual shell login or
using ftp..
