yeah, it surely would be nice to have servers optimised for different platforms, but unfortunately would be too much of a hassle for valve to deal with, and probably questionable performance gains.
(although I have been a gentoo fan since the beginning, and have noticed the relative speed increases, esp desktop) It would be cool to be able to put servers on some of the big iron out there though, and hopefully valve will take a look at releasing a version for amd's 64bit hammer cpus when they come out. Does anyone have an idea whether hlds would benefit from a 64bit architecture?
