i've just checked a few of my boxen, nowhere do I have a symlink for

Any hlds.core's?

why should it be any cores? why should you symlink?

the loadable kernel object linux.ko will only look in /usr/compat/linux/
for linux libraries and programs. at least it should....

ive been running the server on the system for a long time. the only time
it cores, its becouse i upgrade something without shuting down hlds first.
or when there was exploits in adminmod that caused the server to segfault,
but that was ages ago... I have no symlinks to /lib...

I was asking fingers if he ever has any hlds.core files at all
since he mentioned he had no symlinks. There *shouldn't* be any
core files, but there *are* for some people. Namely me (FreeBSD
4.7) and Capriotti (FreeBSD 5.0). So we are trying to find out
why. My server was rock solid stable but at some point it
stopped being like that. I had made no changes at the time to
the OS or hardware. If I had to say what was different between
now and then I would say VAC, as this was noticed soon after
cs1.4. I had HLDS core on me again after I symlinked the 1st
file I mentioned. This time it was looking for a new file which
did exist in the compat/linux/lib. So now I will link the entire
folder and see what happens.
