I have seen a couple of suggestions on this in the past. 1. reinstall 2. check for corrupted memory
When I ran into the problem I went through a combination of the two and it went away. I am thinking that the reinstall was the one that did it... but try that first before you go looking at ram. There are memory testing programs for Linux. Can't remember the one I used tho.
