Just log the output of hlds_run to a file to check what it downloads.

Passwords don't expire BUT if you use an account on another machine it
will invalidate the password on the first machine (so use 1 account per
machine).

If you run with "-autoupdate" then all you will ever need to do is issue
an "rcon quit" to get the update (and not even this for mandatory updates).

We have released an updated dedicated server engine binary. This update
fixes the exploit published by SYZo[SND] (release on Wednesday). The
update also contains a fix for kick messages not being displayed in the

This release is not mandatory so you will need to manually update at
your convenience.

Does steam log when it autoupdates at all? I've not noticed it, but it
would be extremely useful if steam wrote to a changelog or a updatelog
file saying that on <$date:$time> hl engine successfully update to version
<$vernum> or whatever so we don't have to kill the server, run steam
manually and watch it struggle along, then say its already up to date.

Also do the passwords on linux servers expire from being stored after x
days, as last time there was an update I had to manually update all my
servers as it didn't have the email/password stored, negating the use of
autoupdate really..

Cheers,

john
