This is neither the time nor place for a Open Source soapbox about the

Did you know that Half-Life is based on a quake engine? This explains
it's quality renderer. VALVe did the option to render at DirectX that...
never really worked very well?
Because OpenGL is way more stable and CLEAN, Because it has at least 11
years experience.

No one really cares which you use, or the reasons for using it. You should be thanking God there is a Direct3d, because this lights a fire under the guys developing OpenGL to catch up.

Catch up?! OpenGL is not moved by Corporate interest! It a group of persons (specialists in computer graphics) that make it better, they tend to do it stable rather than cutting edge for STABILITY sake. That's why transition to 2.0 is going to take time. Just wait to OpenGL 2.0 comes out.

If it's one thing we've learned, the OpenSource community sucks at graphics, so having competition is a good thing. (Lets be honest, TuxRacer isn't that damn cool and Quake2/3 got old awhile back)

Tux racer is not a commercial game... But is totally portable ...

There's no "Teaming up against the Linux Community", Bill Gates didn't buy Valve just to piss of the Linux guys and this is not a conspiracy.

Hmm "Teaming up against the Linux Community" is a Policy at M$, or you
are that naive? They squash their competitors in tiny little thinks like
this.

If you
care to rant about the "Empire" forcing its graphics medium down your
throat, please drop this list and join one of the 5 million LUG clone lists,
they might actually care.

Hmm i wonder if you got the wrong Half-Life List ... This is a
hlds-LINUX list, that means (if you can read GOOD) that you actually run
hlds Linux servers! Why? M$ can give you a better OS for servers?
Likewise drop this list and sign for the HLDS-WINDOWS list.

Oh well there is never going to be a Half-Life 2 Linux Client, so
you are right there is no point discussing this subject. VALVe (and M$)
will chose all your computer requirements for you... Maybe the future
will prove this is was a wrong decision, i dont see other top FPS
dropping OpenGL support ...
