And the development cycle has been almost at a standstill for half og that time (not in a row). >> >>No one really cares which you use, or the reasons for using it. And OpenGL is certainly moved by corporate interrest since it is a standard set by corporations fx. SGi and several hardware vendors - actually Microsoft is represented too. I have great expectations for OpenGL 2.0, but it is targeted at professional rendering, not games. In this area DirectX has complete control, and if Microsoft keeps pushing it, this will not change with OpenGL 2.0, 3.0 or 10.0 :) >>If it's one thing we've learned, the OpenSource community sucks at >> graphics, so having competition is a good thing. What I do know is that Microsoft makes quite a lot of software and parts are quite good for specific jobs - that Microsoft after tries to cram their software down everyones throat is another story, but it's not a conspiracy. >>If you >>care to rant about the "Empire" forcing its graphics medium down your >> throat, please drop this list and join one of the 5 million LUG clone >> lists, they might actually care. >> >> > Hmm i wonder if you got the wrong Half-Life List ... Microsoft (not M$) can give you a better OS for some things just like FreeBSD is better in most other areas - if you want you can downgrade your BSD to a Linux, but thats another flamewar :D > Oh well there is never going to be a Half-Life 2 Linux Client, so > you are right there is no point discussing this subject. Which other not based on ID's or Epic's engines are you referring to? I hope that the future will make all games played on consoles and let the computer do other stuff. To sum it all up: OpenGL is for professional use DirectX is for home use (Games, video etc.) - Miklos _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
