The fun begins when one of your clients have Steam ID ticket expired in your
lan without internet.
Then your lan for that person is over because there is no way to recover
that error (and yes you do have it a lot). Perhaps if alfred or somebody
could answer this one we would be able to play 1.6 on our next lan :)

Have them update their games before the LAN like they should do in the first
place.

Maybe you could get the latest copies of the client cache files (.gcf) and
let them download them with manual update? Steam\SteamApps\ for .gcf

They should still be able to play just fine though even if they're version
is a little out of date.
