On a dual processor Xeon box yes. Dual anything would be good for that if the servers are fairly occupied much of the time.

Opinions will vary. Most here will probably tell you AMD is better. But then I'm not sure Opteron systems will save you much cash over a Xeon system. You can get an Asus PC-DL mobo for around $190 new, though it's only a 533MHz bus board. That price is good on that board and will save you some cash even though the 533MHz bus CPU's are more costly than the 800MHz cpu's.
