steam:// is already registered by Steam itself, it would be a really, really bad idea for another program to re-register it.

Like I said earlier:

steam: -applaunch 10 +connect 81.169.187.229:27015

It may not look like a valid URL, but it is. You can type that into IE,
or Firefox, or any browser on Windows and it'll start Steam, start the
game you specify with the applaunch number (in this case 10 for CS) and
then pass it the parameter +connect 81.169.187.229:27015 which causes it
to connect to the server. No third-party apps required. You can
obviously change the applaunch number for any of the Steam games.

half-life protocol does this already (steam://)

example: http://bs-linux.com/phpua/index.php?mode=play&server=0 (note
the
link)

Which game are you looking for it to support? CS, CS:Source etc... I
ask as I maintain URLGameStarter which does just this for a large
number of other games including the original Half-life + mods but I
never did add steam but its quite possible if people want it.

hi there!

i noticed that u can click links in the internet explorer like
steam://purchase/13 which are intercepted by the steam client to
perform certain actions.

is it possible to create a steam://-like link on a website to let
visitors join your server by clicking on it? for example: <a
href="steam://joinserver/applaunch/10/81.169.187.229:27015/">click

here

to join</a>
you know what i mean?

that would be awesome.
