I 100000000% agree. I cant believe valve is letting them get away with it. Its a direct loss of revenue, something that they didnt have to face with the tried and true wonid system.
Actually from Valves point of view leaving the way to crack it available until halflife 2 has been on shelves for a few weeks may indeed be a smart move. A multiplayer game is only fun if theres players and a cracked version gurantees more players. Once you have a popular game and everyone hooked, you make it uncrackable and then everyone who had cracked it purchases it.
I think the day they make Steam hack proof is the day we see a whole heap less players on servers. Id prefer the exploitable version of steam stuck around for at least a few more weeks so that it has a chance for legitimate player numbers to reach a higher level, even if it is an abosolute fucking pain in the ass to ban idiots who keep getting new steamid's.

Its true that %n only works on
the unpatched warez versions, however there is an update so that it wont crash them anymore either.
All you have to do, and I dont condone this at all, is go to a foreign server, like asian or russian, and do the %n thing. You can drop all 32 players in most cases.

I have seen 80% players dropped from a server when someone used %n in their name. Chilling that so many users are using the cracked version... Valve should really take measures against it.

there is a patch for the cracked version, so that does not function now any more.
but when you add a "%n" on your name, the players with a cracked version freezed and there are kicked (time out).
It seems that 30 to 40 % of the players use a cracked version.
