You have to ping each, which takes you right back to where it is now.  It's
just pure numbers - there are too many servers to efficiently list.

That'd be a good idea, but how is the master server going to know which

I don't understand why it's such a complicated issue.  Why aren't
servers just sorted by default to the servers whch have the best *ping*
from the client?
