Hi,
when you want to host one Server, take 200HZ ! If you want more Server, take 300HZ. Thats enough for 2-3 full 16 Slot Server 1.6/CS:S www.aargh.at You dont need oingbooster, the pings are very nice and no laggs. believe me ;-)

(My apologies if this is received twice, but I think I submitted my previous mail with the wrong mail account)
Hi,
I'm running a CounterStrike 1.6 server on a P4 3.0GHz (ht) running Debian Linux sarge/testing. The kernel is a custom kernel, version 2.4.28, with patches from http://www.plumlocosoft.com/kernel/ (which appears to be updated to 2.4.28 by now, but the patches seem to be the same, variable hz was set to 1000).
All appears to run fine, but when about 4 players connect, the ping jumps from +/- 20ms to 120-200ms and the fps gets as low as 30 - 50 fps, the cpu load is about 40%:
CPU In Out Uptime Users FPS Players 40.00 12.61 13.90 89 5 50.34 4
The server is started with: ./hlds_run +ip 62.212.xx.xx -game cstrike -pingboost 2 +map de_dust2 +maxplayers 32 -tos.
I tried starting with pingboost/tos and without it, but it didn't solve much if anything.
The machine is colocated so the connection itself should not be a problem, also can't be the running processes as there aren't any except the CS Server and SSHD.
My first guess would be the kernel, but I don't feel like 'just' recompiling the kernel on a colocated box without knowing for sure it's going to help.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sincerely yours, Bas Verhoeven
